In a significant move aimed at harnessing the power of social media for national security, the Nigerian Army has urged social media influencers and bloggers to actively contribute to shaping the narrative for the country's safety. Maj.-Gen. Bamidele Alabi, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, emphasized the crucial role of bloggers and influencers during the 31st edition of the Social Media Influencers Seminar in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Addressing participants, Alabi underscored the importance of these online voices as credible partners in enhancing national security. The seminar, themed "Emerging Trends on Social Media: Impacts on National Security," was deemed timely in light of the dynamic and volatile environment Nigeria faces.

Alabi urged influencers and bloggers to leverage their platforms for fostering peaceful coexistence in the nation. Recognizing the evolving nature of social interaction on digital platforms, he highlighted both positive and negative impacts. While social media has proven instrumental in advancing social causes, it has also been exploited to propagate insecurity, particularly in the northern and southeastern parts of Nigeria.

Maj-Gen. NC Ugbo, the Chief of Military Affairs of the Nigerian Army, emphasized that the seminar was part of an ongoing series across the country. The objective is to engage with social media influencers, bloggers, media practitioners, and the general public on how best to utilize social media for national security enhancement.

During the seminar, participants were encouraged to listen attentively, emphasizing the responsibility of influencers in using various online assets to foster security and peaceful coexistence. The platform provided by such interactions allows the Nigerian Army to work collaboratively with influencers, understanding and utilizing the potential of social media as a tool for the greater good of the nation. This initiative reflects the Army's commitment to adapt to the changing landscape and leverage digital spaces to bolster national security efforts.
