The late-night meeting between the Federal Government and the Organised Labour on the eve of the planned nationwide protest ended in a stalemate, with both sides failing to reach a consensus.
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, affirmed that "the rally goes on," emphasizing the constitutional duty of ensuring a peaceful demonstration.
The closed-door meeting, convened at the State House in Abuja and chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, saw the participation of key government officials and labour leaders.
While the government appealed to the NLC to postpone the protest, citing actions taken to address their demands, the NLC insisted on the need for concrete implementation and resolution of economic challenges plaguing the nation, including inflation, forex crisis, and high living costs.
Despite government pressure, the NLC affirmed their resolve to proceed with the planned protest, underscoring the gravity of the economic situation and the importance of citizens' voices.
