In a significant move to address concerns over alleged illicit transactions, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has implemented a nationwide ban on the use of Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal machines and other mobile money transaction devices within police stations and facilities.

The decision, communicated through Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, comes as a response to reported collusion between POS operators and certain police personnel, raising questions about the security and integrity of police operations.

Despite previous directives, some commands and formations within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have continued to flout regulations, prompting the IGP to reiterate and strengthen the ban to curb potential risks associated with the use of electronic payment devices within police premises.

Adejobi emphasized, "Strict adherence to this directive is non-negotiable," warning that any violation would attract severe sanctions on the leadership of the affected commands and formations. The ban aims to address the compromise of sensitive information, financial irregularities, and the facilitation of illicit activities within police facilities.

The IGP urged all officers and personnel to comply without exception, cautioning that any breach by officers or POS operators would result in "severe sanctions" and appropriate disciplinary and criminal action by existing laws and regulations. The directive signals a firm stance against illicit financial transactions and a commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigerian Police Force.
