The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has publicly denounced the relocation of specific departments within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos State. The senators, led by spokesperson Suleiman Kawu, have issued a stern call to the federal government, urging a reconsideration of the decision or bracing for legal consequences.

The CBN's internal memo, citing congestion at its Abuja headquarters, outlined plans to transfer departments to Lagos. Simultaneously, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo announced the relocation of FAAN's headquarters.

Senator Kawu, representing Kano South and a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), expressed dissatisfaction on behalf of northerners, stressing ongoing engagements with senators from various regions to reverse the relocations to Abuja.

Acknowledging the inconveniences faced by aggrieved northerners, Senator Kawu assured constituents that the NSF takes their concerns seriously. He emphasized the commitment to open dialogue, peaceful negotiations, and legal measures if necessary, aligning with constitutional principles.

The NSF plans to discuss with the federal government, Senate leadership, and relevant stakeholders to advocate for the return of the offices to Abuja. Senator Kawu urged participation in communication channels, assuring the public that their voices would be valued.

This condemnation marks the second instance of Northern groups opposing the relocations, with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) previously asserting that the decision aimed to under-develop the northern region. The NSF, emphasizing constitutional adherence, remains resolute in addressing concerns and upholding justice.

As tensions escalate, the fate of the relocated departments hangs in the balance, with the NSF actively navigating dialogue and legal avenues to assert the interests of the northern constituents.
