Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, has hinted at the possibility of members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) receiving half of their withheld salaries, pending President Bola Tinubu's approval.

This development arises amidst ongoing disruptions in academic activities across public universities due to various staff protests concerning funding deficits, poor working conditions, and infrastructure decay.

Mamman clarified during an interview on Channels Television that unlike the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), whose eight-month strike led to a waiver of the "no work, no pay" policy by President Muhammadu Buhari, SSANU and NASU were on strike for about four months. He emphasized that any payment would likely amount to half of the withheld salaries, subject to the president's decision.

Additionally, Mamman addressed the pending report of the committee investigating fake degrees and certificates, indicating that its submission is forthcoming.
