In a recent political development, prominent businessman Asue Ighodalo has secured victory in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary for Edo State. The election, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, saw Ighodalo garnering 577 votes, outshining other contenders, including Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, serving as the Chief Returning Officer, officially declared Ighodalo as the winner of the primary. In his acceptance speech, Ighodalo expressed gratitude to delegates, supporters, and the PDP for their endorsement. Dressed in a white kaftan, Ighodalo pledged to be a devoted leader, building upon Governor Godwin Obaseki's foundation.

The victory follows Ighodalo's entry into the race one month ago, amid a parallel poll declaring Shaibu as the party's candidate.
