There have been talks about a new name for Etisalat Nigeria, following the pull out of Etisalat International from the firm after a messy loan issue with Nigerian banks.
Etisalat International had according to reports, given Etisalat Nigeria three weeks to phase out the use of the brand name "Etisalat" in the country.
Etisalat Nigeria has debunked the reports about any immediate change of its brand name, and at the same time dropped subtle hints about what its new name might be.
A paragraph from an article titled “Nigeria remains soul of business," the local owner of the brand, Emerging Market Telecommunication Services Ltd. insinuated that the new name would have "naija" in it.
Here's that paragraph:
EMTS launched in Nigeria in 2008 with “0809ja” to affirm the “Nigerianness” of our origin and sphere of influence. In our 9 years of operation, we have remained a prime driver and avid supporter of the Nigerian spirit of excellence, and we will continue to stay true to our “Naijacentric identity”.
