President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, October 20 in Istanbul, Turkey, urged D-8 leaders to prioritize incentives and measures aimed at increasing trade and investments among member countries.

He also congratulated Turkey on assuming the new leadership of the economic organization.

The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, also known as Developing-8, is an organisation for development co-operation among the following countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.

The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states' position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.

The combined population of the eight countries is about 60% of all Muslims, or close to 13% of the world's population.

Here are seven vital points in President Muhammadu Buhari's speak at the 9th summit:

1. Buhari assured D-8 leaders that Nigeria would continue to support the Secretariat in its assignments to achieve the visions and objectives of the organization.

7. He said Nigeria is committed to international trade and development even as he affirmed the country’s readiness to host the Meeting of D8 Ministers of Industry from November 14 – 17 in Abuja.

8. The president stressed the need for prospective investors to take advantage of the federal government’s new policies on trade facilitation while highlighting the attractive business and investment opportunities in the country.
