Sports CHAN 2016: Sunday Oliseh Set To Lose Super Eagles Job

Some quarters in the sports ministry have confirmed that Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh might be axed following the shameful exit of Nigeria from the ongoing African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

Nigeria, who won bronze medal in its debut appearance under coach Stephen Keshi in 2014 failed to make it out of the group stage of the 2016 edition, with Tunisia and Guinea progressing ahead of the Sunday Oliseh's team.

A source according to Sportsday confirmed that Oliseh's case is currently discussed, saying that the entire sports ministry could not hide their embarrassment of the situation.

"It’s true that there is talk about Oliseh getting sacked,” the source affirmed, “but it’s not official for now. I can’t tell you if it is the minister that is making the move or someone else."

"All I can tell you is that we are all embarrassed that Nigeria cannot qualify from the group stage in an African competition. At a point we are thinking about ruling the world, Oliseh has ensured we are disgraced in Africa. That is unacceptable."

Meanwhile, Golden Eaglets coach, Emmanuel Amunike, who won the FIFA U17 world cup for Nigeria in 2015 may be asked to step in on provisional basis until a substantial coach is hired.

"Even The Presidency is not happy with what happened. It is only the NFF that are dragging feet on the matter, but I don’t know for how long they can save him. In fact, if they don’t come up with a cogent explanation, Emmanuel Amuneke may be asked to step in on an interim basis."

“He is in our good books for now, because of his success with the Golden Eaglets, and we cannot forget too that he was a teammate of Oliseh’s during their playing days. That means he is also equally qualified for the job of Eagles’ coach.”

However, NFF’s recently appointed technical committee chairman, Barrister Chris Green via text proved otherwise, as he claimed he was not aware of any intending sack for Oliseh.

Another source, though, threw forward a poser: “The question now is will Oliseh still paddle the canoe, in the aftermath of his outburst in Rwanda following the Super Eagles’ inglorious exit from CHAN.

“Or is the NFF bidding their time to know the outcome of Eagles’ confrontation with Egypt in March to decide Oliseh’s fate? Only time will tell.” SPORTSDAYONLINE
