A group of 14 women including minors have been jailed for 11 years for staging a peaceful protest in Alexandria.

The women who are supporters of the deposed president, Mohammed Morsi, formed a human chain and passed out flyers.

The incident occurred just after Egypt's interim prime minister gave a strong defence of a law further restricting public
demonstrations.
