Quite unfortunately, cases of kidnap are not new in Nigeria. Exactly a month ago, a kidnap gang stormed the Lagos State Model College at the Igbonla area of Epe and abducted six students – making it the second case in seven months. The kidnap gang was said to have penetrated the school through a hole they dug in the fence, shooting sporadically into the air. They grabbed six students and boarded speedboats the speedboats they'd come with.

Really, kidnappers are daredevils in Nigeria, and anywhere around the world.

The recent arrest of kidnap kingpin, Chukwudidumeme Onuomadike, a.ka. Evans, exposed the lavish lifestyle that kidnappers live in Nigeria at the expense of other people's innocence and fortune. Evans, the 'most notorious' kidnapper was rounded up few weeks ago in Lagos at his Magodo residence. Evans is a billionaire kidnapper. The ill-gotten fortunes he has been able to amass beat the imagination of even the most corrupt in Nigerian society. Evans changed the face of kidnapping in Nigeria. He collected $1 million ransom on six different occasions.

Though not tried before the court yet, Evans' confessions have nailed him, and won't rule out the possibility of him being either jailed for life or convicted to death. And as well, the Inspector General of Police has advocated for the imposition of death sentence on convicted kidnappers to set as a lesson for others.

What are those things that would happen if Evans gets death sentence? They include:

1. Decimate Kidnap Cases In Nigeria: The death conviction of notorious Evans will signal a new era for 'kidnapping business' in Nigeria – of a society that can no longer condone notoriety and it concomitant crimes.

2. More Confidence In Nigeria Security Forces: Kidnapping is a major challenge for security forces in Nigeria, but the efforts of security forces have been laudable in getting Evans arrested, and conducting investigation leading to the revelation of other truths and accomplices. His death conviction will restore the confidence of Nigerians in the workings of the security forces.

3. He Would Serve As Deterrent For Others: Evans may not be the only billionaire kidnapper in Nigeria, just that he happens to be the first to be caught. There are still many 'Evans' out there that are yet to be nabbed. Evans death conviction would serve as deterrent to his 'gang' that may be lurking out there.

4. Lesson For Nigerian Youths:
The extravagant lifestyle of Evans is enough to 'convince' anyone, especially youths that kidnapping is a money-bag. But his death will possibly kill such thoughts. It will serve as a lesson for Nigerian youths that kidnapping is no legit business and does not have a breathing place in any society.

5. Justice Served: Few days ago, #FreeEvans, a movement for the release of the notorious kidnapper, trended on social media. But the campaign was greeted with outrage on the internet, particularly on Twitter. The conviction to death of the kidnapper would amount to justice being served.

Our politicians and even those making the laws are worst than him but nobody is talking about them. They loot the monies that are meant for the masses forcing them to do anything just to put food on their tables but when they are caught, those looters would be seen as saints. Am not supporting kidnappers. In fact they are heartless but this issue is complicated
