Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of modern day Singapore is dead. He died at the age of 91 and will be buried on 29 March, after a week of mourning.

Lee had been in hospital for several weeks with pneumonia and was on life support.

He is popular for overseeing tiny Singapore's transformation from British tropical outpost to an affluent, global city in just over a generation. The former Singapore leader was a Cambridge trained leader who was often criticised for his iron grip on power but will always be remembered as the man who built one of Asia's most liveable and corruption-free countries.
