Chiamaka Obinna, an eight month old baby girl was recovered recently after being sold by her grandmother for N200,000.

The grandmother on the 19th of July, 2013 had sent her daughter and other children on errands to pave the way for her diabolical act. Some of the neighbours, unknown to the grandmother, had seen her remover Chiamaka from her back and handed over the child to some women. When the child’s mother returned and asked for her baby, the grandmother feigned ignorance and claimed maybe the other children had taken the baby, but when the others came back without the child, the mother raised an alarm.

The neighbours then reported to her that they had witnessed the grandmother handing the child over to some women, which the grandmother denied and the matter was taken to the police. During interrogation, however, the grandmother confessed to selling the baby, allegedly at the baby’s mother’s consent, to one Eucharia for N200,000, who in turn took the child to Awka, Anambra state and sold it to one Rita for N330,000. Rita then took the baby to one Grace and sold her for N500,000.

The suspect stated that she had sold the baby because the child’s mother failed to take good care of the baby.
