Valentin Balakhnichev has resigned from his role as the treasurer for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) following allegations about Russia on doping.
Balakhnichev who is the head of the Russia Athletics Federation, is said to have been aware of the doping claims associated with his federation, which was blown open last month.
There has been an ongoing investigation over the doping allegations rocking the Russian federation, and Balakhnichev has opted to step aside until the investigations have been completed.
Speaking to Russian news agency, Tass, he said that he would return at: "the end of the investigation into this doping scandal".
However, outgoing president of the IAAF Lamine Diack faulted Balakhnichev on the manner of his resignation, saying: "I'll deal with Valentin."
"He could say, 'I withdraw from my duties until an investigation is concluded'." Diack added.
