President Mohammadu Buhari has revealed that he chose Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly as his running mate in 2011 elections to shut the mouths of those who saw him as a religious bigot.

Buhari made this statement on Tuesday at the Kastina State Economic and Investment Summit, that had in attendance Africa’s foremost billionaire, Aliko Dangote, and Tunde Bakare himself.

“One of the four attempts to get here was with Tunde Bakare, when people said I’m a religious bigot, I decided to take a pastor so that I can shut their mouths up,” he said.

Buhari assured Nigerians of his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises.

At the presidential primaries last year, the President was quoted as saying, “I will bring all the resources to end poverty through ending corruption, ensure economic growth investing in our country and creating jobs.’’

Buhari contested for Nigeria’s presidency in 2003, 2007, 2011 before emerging victorious in 2015.

He contested twice on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), once in the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), before moving to the All Progressives Congress (APC, where he made history as the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president.

I do not believe mr President on this. He chose Bakare to enable him get some votes Christians and by extension win the election. Was he saying that Bakare was not good enough to be the Vice President but just a tool to shut up his critics?
