Sports Keshi was sacked to protect him from being harmed by the fans - NFF President Amaju Pinnick

President of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) Amaju Pinnick has defended their decision to relieve Stephen Keshi as the Super Eagles coach, arguing that they did it for his safety.

Explaining to the Sports Minister Tamuno Danagogo why Keshi was laid off, Pinnick said that attitude of the fans towards him forced them to take swift actions.

Keshi was roundly booed in Nigeria's 3-1 victory over Sudan on Wednesday, with most of the fans voicing their displeasure with him when they hauled objects towards his technical area during the game.

And Pinnick said that the fans swayed them to sack Keshi, as they realized that he was no longer acceptable to the fans.

“It was too much to bear. The fans were coming for him and it was going to be a security risk for us as people had ran out of patience and were prepared to break the law to achieve their aim. Keshi’s personal safety was paramount in our decision to relieve him of his duties”, Pinnick was quoted as saying on Vanguard Sports.
