World Lufthansa Plane Crashes in France, Killing 148

A Lufthansa airbus has crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of more than 148 passengers.

The President of France, Francois Hollande has said the conditions of the crash leads him to believe that none of the people on board survived the crash, while the head of Lufthansa said it is a dark day for the German airline.

According to French officials, there were 142 passengers and six crew on board. The plane gave a distress call at 0947 GMT, less than an hour after take-off.

This will be the first crash of an airliner on French grounds since the July 2000 Concorde disaster c lose to Paris.
