Sports Man City beat Sunderland to win Capital One Cup final

manchester-city-football-club-logo-wallpaper.jpg Manchester City beat Sunderland 3-1 to win the final of the Capital One Cup match on Sunday.

Going into the game,City were the overwhelming favourites but they were made to work hard for the victory.

Sunderland closed down spaces and limited City from carving out an opening for a goal. Kun Aguero was just making a comeback from an injury, and it was evident as he was completely stifled.

The Black Cats took a surprise lead after a terrible defending by City.
Fernadinho lost possession and former City player Adam Johnson floated a pass to Fabio Borini who latched on to the ball. The Italian eluded the duo of Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis, heading the ball down as he raced towards goal and drilled in a low shot in the bottom corner to open the scores for his side.

City were deflated and there was a feeling of last year's FA Cup final defeat against Wigan, ringing through at Wembley.

Borini could have made it two, beating the offside trap and was going through on goal before Kompany made a timely challenge to prevent the goal.

Ki Sung-yueng on loan from Swansea, tried a 30-yard shot which Costel Pantilimon did well to save, but City recovered and gradually settled in the second half.

Manuel Pellegrini's team scored two goals in quick succession to crush Sunderland's good work.

The comeback was started by Yaya Toure who caught Vito Mannone off his post, invoking a piece of magic to curl in a shot beyond the keeper and equalise for his team.

The goal was the third that the big Ivorian will be scoring at Wembley.

Almost immediately,City went two goals up. Samir Nasri latched up to a cutback from Aleksandar Kolarov to swing in a goal with the inside of his right foot.

However,Sunderland did not deter and committed bodies forward for an equaliser. Gus Poyet's men toiled but lacked the cutting edge to finish off moves.

And just when they went in search of an equaliser,City countered and scored the third deciding goal to kill off the contest in the 90th minute.

City had five men against two on a counter move and who better to lead it than Toure, the 30-year old found substitute Jesus Navas and the Spaniard did justice to it by finishing off the move with a goal.

There was no time again for Sunderland to come back in the game; but they gave a good account of themselves in the match that everybody expected City to win.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany on BBC Radio 5 live said: "You have got to cherish every trophy and this is another. We had to step it up in the second half. Our first half performance was not up to standard. This means everything."
