Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has threatened to go on 'strike' if the Petroleum Industry Bill isn't passed into law by the current national assembly, Daily Independent reports.

National President of the Union, Comrade Achese Igwe, told newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, said that the union expects the quick passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), which has been in the National Assembly for four years now, “else the workers in the industry may have no option than to withdraw their services.”

Achese said if the PIB is not passed by the current National Assembly, the rehabilitation of the nation’s four refineries to make them work optimally and building of new refineries in order to reduce the massive importation of petroleum products, would not be realistic.

According to him, the non-passage of the regulatory laws have given an impetus to wanton sabotage and fraudulent activities in the oil and gas industry, the result of which is huge revenue loss to government.
