A security expert has expressed dissatisfaction with President Muhammadu Buhari's response to questions concerning the Chibok girls in his recent media chat and banning of hijab as a solution to increasing rate of suicide bombings by Boko Haram terrorists in parts of the country.

Mr. Kabir Adamu, an Abuja-based security expert and Managing Director, Beacon Consulting Limited, said Buhari left much to be desired in "the continued abduction of the Chibok Girls by the Islamist insurgent group, Jamatus ahlis Sunna lil Dawatil wal Jihad otherwise called Boko Haram, and the use of Hijab by female suicide bombers to hide their Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) clad vests".

He said that the president's response casts doubt on the focus of the intelligence organisations in Nigeria.

According to the security analyst, if Buhari's response is a tacit disproval of the effectiveness of the current collection priorities of the intelligence organisations then he has not shown it in the last seven months that he has been at the helm of affairs as the president to whom all these four organisations report.

"It can be argued that he has changed the leadership of the ONSA, DIA and SSS but our position is that as long as he does not review the instrumentalities of these offices to attune them to the realities of Nigeria's current democratic dispensation and the realities of the modern world then they will continue to focus on other aspects outside the protection of the core of our national interest, which is the protection of citizens. Simply put these are the organisations that are funded by tax payers money to provide intelligence for the protection of national interest. We now have a situation where 219 plus girls are missing and we do not have a clue as to their whereabouts! So what have they been doing with the huge budgetary allocations to fund intelligence collection?

"In addition, is President Buhari's statement also a tacit disapproval of the intelligence cooperation and liaison arrangement Nigeria has with friendly countries including the US, UK, France and coterminous countries including Chad, Cameroon and Niger? If yes, what has the president done in the last seven months to influence and redirect this cooperation and liaison arrangements to be more effective and efficient? We are talking of over 219 girls and not a needle in a haystack."

Against this backdrop, Adamu advocated that president Buhari tasks the intelligence organisations in the manner he gave the military three months deadline to end the insurgency.
