Sports Obafemi Martins extends his contract with Seattle Sounders

Nigerian international Obafemi Martins has signed a new contract with his clubside Seattle Sounders.

The new deal will see the 30-year-old remain with Sounders until 2017.

Martins has been in scintillating form for the Major League Soccer outfit since his move from Spanish side Levante, and has become their main man in attack alongside Clint Dempsey.

He added that he is happy to have signed a new deal with Sounders: "I've settled down here and I'm excited to commit to the club for the next few years," Martins told BBC Sport.

"The fans are amazing, the club is awesome and together we are building something massive here."

Martins has helped Sounders win the Supporters' Shield and US Open Cup title and he has already set his sights on winning more laurels for the club.

"My ambition is to win more trophies here and continue to give my best."

Martins is expected to make a return to the Super Eagles national team, when coach Amodu Shaibu releases his list of players for the 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers against Congo and South Africa.
