Chief Nyesom Wike, Gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers state on Thursday narrowly escaped death when unknown gunmen stormed his campaign rally at Abua Central in Abua/Odual local government area of the state; LEADERSHIP reports.
Wike and core members of his campaign team where yet to arrive the campaign venue when the gunmen struck. The gun attack reportedly lasted for about 45 minutes forcing supporters of the PDP to scamper for safety.
The supporters however returned after the attack had died down and were addressed by Wike.
Wike said, ''We believe in non violence in our quest to take over governance of Rivers State. This level of violence will not be allowed to continue. The people of Rivers State have resolved to vote out this outgoing administration and all her associates. That they have resorted to violence indicates that they are aware that they have lost the election''.
