When the #SaveMayowa fund raising plea appeared on the internet, many Nigerians went passionate about it. Within 3 days, a sum of $100,000 was raised for the ailing Mayowa despite economic hardship.
Cancer patient, Mayowa Ahmed has been on the sick bed of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH for some time.
However, indications have emerged that the fund raising campaign was not genuine as the family had been told the case was beyond redemption before the fund raising campaign.
As reported on Lindaikeji’s blog, ‘Mayowa’ cancer case had reached stage 4 and doctors, unfortunately, already told her family she won't survive it and had advised them to take her home. Her family instead used her situation to raise money from Nigerians. The doctors in LUTH have also denied giving her family a medical report advising her to seek treatment abroad.’
In her reaction, NollywoOd actress, Toyin Aimakhu who spearheaded the campaign was left in shock as she cries endlessly.
