Egypt President, Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi has stated that issues of human rights and civil liberties in his country should not be approached from a “Western perspective''.

al-Sisi told this to a US congressional delegation visiting Cairo, Al Arabiya reports. The comments came after the president was accused by critics of human rights abuses by orchestrating a clampdown on the press.

Sisi told the US delegation, which was headed by the chairman of the US House Committee on Homeland Security Michael McCaul, that the Egyptian government was committed to the rule of law and upholding the values of democracy but he also warned of the consequences of the “fall of nation states” in the Middle East, and its impact on the rise of militant groups, al-Ahram reported.
