South Africa on Saturday defeated Nigeria for the first time in a competitive game.

The Bafana Bafanas beat the Super Eagles with two unreplied goals in Uyo in a qualifier for the upcoming Africa cup of Nations.

Unmarked Rantie headed in from close range after a goal less first half before substitute Tau made it two after beating the offside trap, rounding off the Nigerian goalkeeper in the process.

Ndidi could've put Nigeria ahead but he fired over the bar on two occasions and missed a tap-in as well.

The South Africans played with more vigor, were more energetic and were compact as well. Nigeria on the other hand played sluggishly and failed to create chances.

It's shameful. Ndidi you were there?
Ndidi was the only one in a position to score for us. He missed 3 chances- one tap in and two shots.

It's still early days though. Anything can happen. Others in the group are Libya and Seychelles. Libya top though, they defeated Seychelles 5-1 on Friday.

@ese Only 2 games have been played in the World Cup qualifier. We lead the group with 6 points. Nxt on the log is Cameroon with 2 points. Algeria and Zambia both have 1 point. We'll play Cameroon in August (at home). If we win that game 4 more points should be enough to qualify.

It's okay then.
