Sports Super Falcons wins third consecutive match at the AWC, defeats Namibia 2-0

Nigeria's Super Falcons today made it three wins in three matches at the ongoing African Women's Championship, beating the host nation, Namibia 2-0 to top their group.

Two first half goals from Gloria Ofoegbu and Francisca Ordega made the difference for the Nigerian side, who rested some of their first team players for their semi-final clash.

Playing in front of their home fans at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, there was no doubt where the pendulum was going to swing, as the Nigerian ladies were more dominant despite giving some squad members a game-time.

Prior to the game,Nigeria had already qualified for the semifinals and it was down to the other three to determine who joins the Super Falcons in the last four of the tournament.

But the defeat to Nigeria meant that Namibia has now exited the tournament, with Ivory Coast sealing the last qualification spot in the group.

The Super Falcons have a track record of being the best on the continent, only recently being challenged by Equatorial Guinea who are the defending champions.

Coach Edwin Okon and his team will be aiming to reclaim the title but first their priority would be to finish amongst the first three in order to qualify for the Women's World Cup tournament taking place in Canada next year.
