The Nigerian police has arrested and detained the president of UNILAG Students Union, 'Olaniyan' following protests embarked upon by the students over poor power and water supply.

The school authorities on Friday had ordered an indefinite closure of the institution, stressing that no student should be seen in the school premises after 10am.

Students, however, refused to vacate the Akoka campus of the school as they sealed the gates, using trash collectors to mount blockades.

While some of the students said they were stranded due to high cost of transportation as a result of the fuel scarcity, others said they needed more time to pack their things from the hostels.

Relatively, spokesperson of the Student Union, was also arrested.

Reports allege that their arrest came after they allegedly called UNILAG Vice Chancellor ‘drunk’ in a press statement.
