President Barack Obama had on July 13, 2016 appointed Stuart Symington as Ambassador to Nigeria.
Symington is expected to replace James Entwistle, who would retire from the United States Foreign Service in July, after 35 and a half years of service.

In July 2015, Ambassador W. Stuart Symington was named Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Central Africa and African Security Affairs.

Ambassador Symington works in the Africa Bureau work of US missions and partners throughout the continent to support the people of Africa in their efforts to achieve broad-based prosperity and lasting security by ensuring inclusive democratic governance and justice.
