The U.S Agency for International
Development said yesterday that it plans to invest $100m in the education sector of Nigeria.

Mrs Jill Jupiter-Jones, Team Leader, Education for USAID said the money will be given to 5 states in the Northwestern Nigeria; Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna and Sokoto states to help boost their education.

According to her, the north has the lowest education rate in Nigeria especially in the girl child education. This is why the north is being focused on.

She said: ``We are designing projects in five states
in Nigeria: Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Sokoto and Katsina, through the Global
Partnership for Education.

``One hundred million dollars will be
divided amongst these states to carry out
a lot of activities that would improve the
educational sector of the country.

``We will invest money into these states to
fill in gaps that state governments cannot
fill.

``We are working together with JICA,
UNICEF and DFID.’’

We hear of all these promises. What about implementation? Don't forget that "seeing is believing".
