Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State on Wednesday described Labour Party as the only genuine progressive party in the country.

Mimiko said during the inauguration of the party’s executives at its Oyo State secretariat in Ibadan.

"The difference between our party and others is that we practice progressiveness while some are progressives by name. Our party is the only party that cares so much for the masses and has been doing so,’’ he said.

Addressing party supporters, the governor said that it was only in Ondo State controlled by the party that university students were paying N25,000 as tuition fee.

"If a public university could charge its students N250,000, then how much do they expect private universities to charge? These people don’t care for the masses. Our own government took the records of street traders in Ondo State and built new markets before the traders were evacuated from the roads.

"They said I am building markets but l told them that I will continue to build markets,’’ Mimiko said.

Mimiko, who described the health facilities in his state as excellent, noted that 30 per cent of the patients at the state’s hospitals were from Osun and Oyo States. The governor urged other state governments to emulate the state’s health programme for pregnant women.

He also urged the party’s supporters to be loyal to the government at the centre, saying President Goodluck Jonathan was improving the nation’s economy.
