Sports We were unlucky not to beat Nigeria - Bafana coach

South Africa coach, Shakes Mashaba, has commended his boys for their fantastic effort against the Super Eagles and believes that they were unlucky not to have beaten the Nigeria in their 2015 Nations Cup qualifiers.

Both teams settled for a goalless draw in Cape Town with the Super Eagles remaining win-less after two matches.

Bafana Bafana mounted enough pressure to have helped them win the game six minutes before the end as Tokelo Rantie found himself alone with goalkeeper ,but missed the effort after Austin Ejide made himself big to keep out the shot.

“It was a game of nerves, chances were created by both sides,” Mashaba told the media.

“It went in stanzas. Nigeria got the upper hand. We came back, we had upper hand, we should have sealed it in the end, lady luck was not smiling for us but there are a number of things we can rectify.”

“We got positive results in the two matches. We can go back home and work on mistakes,” he said.

“South Africans never gave us a chance today, I know it very well.

“The performance we put on today was unbelievable, it's not just scoring goals it’s about the performance. We are not just playing any team but one of the football powerhouses.

“We appreciate the point. It will help us going on.”

While many Bafana followers would say this was their best opportunity to finally bury the Nigeria hoodoo, Mashaba preferred to look at the positives.

“If we had scored those goals there wouldn't be those questions, it would have been sealed and done.

“We still need to work on finishing. In the last 10 minutes we created open chances, we were left with the goalkeeper. Tonight the goalkeeper stood [between] us and victory,” he said.
