Brazil's woes continued on Saturday when they lost the third place playoffs match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup against the Netherlands in the city of Brasilia.

Still shell-shocked from their semifinal 7-1 drubbing to Germany on Tuesday, the host country was hoping to at least salvage some pride with victory over the Dutch team.

It was a second straight defeat on home soil for Brazil who were left stunned by the early start of Holland in the game.

They Netherlands went if front through a penalty converted by Robin Van Persie inside the first 90 seconds of the match.

It was a controversial penalty given by the Algerian referee, who appeared to have made the wrong decisions in the call.

Thiago Silva clawed Arjen Robben from outside the box,and being the last man should have received a red card and a free kick awarded.

But rather a penalty was given and Silva shown a yellow card for the offence.

The Netherlands added a second goal not long after, but mainly due to another poor defensive mistake.

David Luiz failed to head Robben's cross out of danger, rather bringing it back into play only for Daley Blind to firmly control and roofing it into the net.

The Brazilian fans had the trauma of their semifinal loss to Germany reawakened, however their players pushed for a goal to at least reduce the deficit.

Luiz and Paulinho couldn't get the right connection to tap in a free kick, and that was as good as they got.

Oscar as ever was impressive, running down all the channels to try and conjure up something for his side.

However,Holland were solid in defence, not allowing Brazil any opportunity to beat Japser Cillessen in goal.

The Dutch team completed the rout when in stoppage time Wijnaldum got the third goal to seal a 3-0 victory for his team.

It has been a torturous few days to forget for Brazil who shipped in ten goals in just two matches.

Brazil ended the tournament conceding 13 goals at this 20 World Cup- an all time high for them.

Maybe the future of Luis Felipe Scolari has been sacrificed as atonement for the failure of winning a World Cup tournament that they are hosting.

Do you know that: Van Persie's goal is the 100th goal Brazil have conceded at the World Cup.
