Cristiano Ronaldo and his Portuguese teammates came from almost losing their second game and crashing out of the 2014 World Cup tournament to salvaging a point and keep their faint hopes alive.

The United States of America(USA) were on the brink of securing a historic win against Portugal only to succumb and draw 2-2 with the last kick of the match.

A tournament that has seen the elimination of defending champions,Spain in the first round,Portugal almost became another football powerhouse to exit the tournament with one more game to spare, but they turned the screw and at least were able to draw the game.

Portugal started the game brightly and they went in front through a Nani strike after the Manchester United man picked a loose ball and had ample time to roof the ball beyond Tim Howard.

But that was as good as Paulo Bento's team got, they were poor afterwards and it was the USA team who dictated the game.

Ronaldo's injury would always arouse conversations, and he showed that he wasn't fully fit as he hardly ignited his magical form.

USA equalised in the second half through Jermaine Jones with the ball falling to him from a corner kick, and the Schalke 04 player went past Nani to curl in a wonderful goal for his country.

Jurgen Klinsmann's team pushed on and got the second goal with Clint Dempsey latching on to a cross to put USA in front.

They were almost at the verge of securing a famous victory that would have sealed their qualification into the last 16 before Ronaldo turned provider for Silvestre Varela to net an equaliser for Portugal.

The Real Madrid player with almost the only good thing he did all night dipped in a perfect cross for Varela to steal the game at the death.

USA in their last group game will now need just a point against Germany whom they are level on points with on four points to guarantee qualification for the next round, while Portugal and Ghana tied on just a point apiece will be hoping things go their way to go through.
