The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) made a significant stride in Edo State's political landscape as it unveiled the list of governorship candidates for the upcoming September 21 election. Led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Anugbum Onuoha, INEC displayed the comprehensive roster of contenders on notice boards across all its offices in the 18 local government areas.

Among the notable candidates revealed are Uwaifo Osaro representing the Action Alliance (AA), Aner Aliu for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Azena Azemhe Friday standing for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The list also includes Osifo Isiah from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other aspirants from various political parties, each vying for the esteemed governorship position.

This public unveiling marks a pivotal moment in Edo's political landscape, sparking heightened anticipation and scrutiny among stakeholders and citizens alike.

In a statement by Sam Olumekun, the national commissioner and chairman of the information and voter education committee, INEC emphasized the importance of scrutinizing candidate documents.

The commission underscored its commitment to upholding electoral integrity and urged Nigerians to utilize legal avenues to challenge false information provided by candidates, in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022.

With the unveiling of governorship contenders, Edo's political landscape braces for an intense electoral showdown, shaping the trajectory of governance and democracy in the state.
