The 19th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards took place at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, on October 29, 2023. The event brought together filmmakers from around the world to celebrate the outstanding achievements in African cinema. The prestigious awards ceremony was hosted by Nancy Isime, Rahama Sadau, and Richard Ato Turkson.
Among the notable films, C.J. 'Fiery' Obasi's "Mami Wata" received 12 nominations and secured recognition in various categories, including Best Film in an African Language, Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Screenplay, and Best Director.
Winners in various categories included "Lions" from Ethiopia for Best Short Film, "Jabari" from Ghana for Best Animation, "Le Spectre de Boko Haram" from Cameroon for Best Documentary, "Anikulapo" from Nigeria for Best Film in an African Language, and "KOFA" from Nigeria/Canada by Jude Idada for Best Film By An African-Born Director Living Abroad
