The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announces a substantial 40% increase in prize money for the winners of the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, now set at $7 million.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe highlights the significance of this boost, emphasizing its contribution to football development in member associations.

The runners-up will receive $4 million, marking a notable increase from the previous $2.7 million. Further enhancements extend to the semi-finalists and quarter-finalists, now earning $2.5 million and $1.7 million, respectively.

The revised prize structure aims to benefit football stakeholders and assist member associations in their administrative endeavors. As AFCON's 34th edition approaches, scheduled from January 13 to February 11, the Super Eagles of Nigeria gear up for a challenging campaign in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

However, their journey is shadowed by the absence of Wilfred Ndidi, ruled out of the competition, with Alhassan Yusuf named as his replacement
