Aviation workers, including pilots and engineers, have issued a notice of an indefinite nationwide strike beginning on Tuesday, October 2, 2023. This strike aligns with the one declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in protest of the hardships caused by the increased petrol prices.

The aviation workers, represented by unions such as the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), and the Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), have expressed their intention to join the nationwide strike. This decision could disrupt flight operations across the country.

In a joint statement, the unions emphasized their commitment to mobilizing for the strike as affiliates of the two Labor Centers. They called on all branches of their respective unions to coordinate with the State Councils of the NLC and TUC to ensure the success of the nationwide strike, beginning on the early hours of Tuesday, October 3, 2023.

This strike action highlights the growing concerns over the economic challenges and hardships faced by Nigerians due to rising fuel prices, with aviation workers playing a crucial role in this nationwide protest.
