In the early hours of Friday, more than 24 students from the Federal University of Gusau were kidnapped in Sabon-Gida, Zamfara State, as bandits invaded the community. According to a student from the university, most of the abducted students were female. Gunmen entered the community at around 3 am and began firing indiscriminately, targeting three student hostels.

All the students in these hostels were taken by the bandits. An anonymous source reported that the bandits engaged in a fierce gun battle with Nigerian Army troops, but they managed to escape with the kidnapped victims. Sabon-Gida village is located near the main campus of the Federal University of Gusau, approximately 20 km from the state capital, Gusau. Despite attempts to contact school authorities and the state police command, there has been no official comment on the incident. Earlier in June, university students had protested against the increasing frequency of abductions involving their schoolmates in Sabon-Gida and Damba.
