The Nigerian Navy Ship Beecroft patrol team intercepted eleven stowaways aboard the Guangzhou Highway Panama ship en route to Ghana. The interception occurred around 7 p.m. when the patrol team found them hiding in obscured spaces of the vessel's stern gate. The individuals were handed over to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in adherence to established protocols.

Initially, four stowaways were discovered, but later, the team found seven more hidden in various parts of the vessel. The identities of the arrested individuals have been disclosed.

This incident highlights stowaways' risks and threats to themselves and maritime security. It's not just about the unlawful act of stowing away. During the extensive sea voyage, stowaways put themselves in life-threatening situations, and their presence presents many safety and security complications.

The successful interception and handover is a testament to the Nigerian Navy's unwavering dedication to bolstering maritime security and upholding the rule of law under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, EI Ogalla. This operation reinforces the importance of stringent maritime security measures and ensures safer and more secure oceanic travel, which is vital for international trade and global economies.
