Gunmen associated with the Yoruba Nation movement attempted to seize control of the Oyo Governor's Office and the State Assembly in Ibadan, Nigeria, sparking chaos and prompting a swift response from security forces. Clad in Army camouflage and armed with rifles, the masked men occupied strategic points within the Secretariat, leading to the firing of tear gas canisters by security operatives and the subsequent arrest of 18 suspects.

The situation sent shockwaves through the area, with residents fleeing and road users diverted as sporadic gunshots rang out. Despite efforts by security personnel and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (retd), to defuse the situation, the armed agitators persisted in their attempt to hoist their flag in the Secretariat.

However, the arrival of soldiers from the Nigerian Army's 2 Division ultimately quelled the disturbance, with some agitators fleeing and others being pursued by the officers. Notable Yoruba Nation proponents, including Professor Banji Akintoye and Sunday Adeyemo (aka Igboho), distanced themselves from the incident, disavowing any involvement and condemning the actions of the attackers.

The State Police Command confirmed the arrest of 18 suspects in connection with the incident, seizing an array of weapons and paraphernalia associated with the agitators.

The Police Commissioner vowed to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing the criminal and unpatriotic nature of the attack.
