The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has halted a sprawling smuggling operation, arresting 21 trucks carrying hidden cargoes of food and non-food items bound for neighboring countries.

Intercepted at key exit routes along Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno State, the EFCC operatives demonstrated keen vigilance in revealing the covert smuggling activity.

The Head of Media and Publicity for EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, disclosed that the trucks skillfully concealed their contents, a discovery made possible by the sharp-eyed EFCC team. Waybills indicated N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central Africa Republic, and Cameroon as the intended destinations. Oyewale emphasized that the arrests aim to curb food insecurity fueled by the clandestine activities of smugglers across the country.

Those involved in the smuggling operation are under investigation, and the EFCC assures that culprits will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
