The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, has shed light on the airline's involvement in the Nigeria Air project, dispelling prior speculation. Mr. Tasew explained that Ethiopian Airlines was initially reluctant but eventually agreed to partner with the Nigerian government to establish a national carrier, Nigeria Air. The Nigerian government asked that Ethiopian Airlines temporarily paint their aircraft with the Nigerian logo for inspection, and the airline complied.

However, the Nigeria Air project faced legal challenges, with some Nigerian companies and airlines opposing it. This led Ethiopian Airlines to consider withdrawing from the venture. The Nigerian government, insisting on the project's importance, convinced Ethiopian Airlines to continue until the legal matter is resolved.

Mr. Tasew emphasized that the project was initiated by the Nigerian government, and Ethiopian Airlines was invited to participate. The goal was not to harm Nigerian airlines but to create a reliable national carrier that would benefit the Nigerian public.

The CEO noted that Ethiopian Airlines was willing to support Nigeria's decision, whether to continue or cancel the project. The choice is ultimately in the hands of the Nigerian government.
