Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued an order to demolish the popular COVID-19 market located in Area 11, Abuja. The Director of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), Osi Braimah, confirmed this decision while addressing journalists during the demolition of makeshift stores constructed in the market.

The primary aim of this action is to address the ongoing security concerns in the area and throughout the city. The removal of shanties and unauthorized settlements is part of a larger effort by various agencies in the Federal Capital Territory to enhance security and sanitation, as explained by Osi Braimah.

He stated, "This is an ongoing exercise by various agencies of the FCT; AEPB has been given a marching order by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to scale up demolition of all shanties, illegal settlements, and squatter camps in the FCT. We have been doing this for a long time, primarily because this scaling up will improve city sanitation and also cater for the attendant problem of insecurity."
