The Federal Government of Nigeria has made the decision to indefinitely suspend the N-Power program due to irregularities within the scheme. The program, which was launched to address youth unemployment and promote social development, is facing challenges related to the utilization of funds and the status of beneficiaries.

Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, announced the suspension while appearing on a TVC news program. She expressed concerns about beneficiaries who are not present at their designated assignments but still expect monthly stipends. Some beneficiaries, she noted, should have exited the program in 2022 but are still receiving payments.

The government intends to conduct a thorough investigation into the utilization of funds within the N-Power program, including the number of current beneficiaries, outstanding payments, and the restructuring and expansion of the program. Edu emphasized that approximately 80 percent of beneficiaries are not actively working despite claiming salaries.

This decision reflects the government's commitment to addressing issues within the N-Power program and ensuring transparency and effectiveness in its implementation.
