Justice Adegbola Adeniyi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the immediate and unconditional release of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele. This order came in response to Emefiele's Motion Ex-parte, seeking his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending the hearing and determination of the Originating Motion.

The court has directed the EFCC to either release Emefiele or produce him in court on Monday, November 6, 2023, the date fixed for the hearing of the substantive Motion on Notice. There is also a possibility of Emefiele being admitted to bail by the court.

Emefiele named the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, and the EFCC itself as respondents in the case.

Emefiele was suspended from his position as CBN Governor by President Bola Tinubu on June 9. His release and potential bail will be addressed in court during the upcoming hearing.
