The former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, publicly expressed his deep gratitude to Herbert Wigwe, the former Group CEO of Access Holdings Plc, for the unwavering support that saw him through the turbulent aftermath of his dethronement.

Breaking down in tears as he addressed the gathered crowd, Sanusi painted a heartfelt picture of the loyalty and assistance he received from Wigwe during one of the darkest periods of his life.

"I was thinking I would die and leave Herbert. We have all heard about him, about his loyalty," Sanusi confessed with an emotionally laden voice. He recounted how, after being removed as Emir of Kano by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Herbert stood by his side, assuring him of unflinching support and loyalty.

In a testament to the depth of their bond, Sanusi revealed how Herbert swiftly organized a plane to transport him from Kano to Lagos on the very day he heard of his dethronement. The initial plan was for Sanusi to go into exile for many years, and without hesitation, Herbert ensured the safe relocation of Sanusi's family to Lagos.

Sanusi praised Herbert's commitment to his family's well-being, stating, "Your Highness, if you want to travel, just call Shola."

Beyond the personal connection, Sanusi acknowledged Herbert's pivotal role in his professional journey, particularly during his five-year tenure as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. He credited Herbert and his partner Aig Imoukhuede for their indispensable contributions to resolving challenges in the banking sector and linking banking sector assets to the real economy.

The former CBN Governor also shared a touching moment from two years ago when he entrusted Herbert with the responsibility of overseeing a trust dedicated to the education of his children. Recalling the meeting, Sanusi expressed his confidence in Herbert's commitment, saying, "Herbert, I am placing you in charge of this trust for the education of my children because I know that even if I died and did not leave any money, you will educate our children."

This emotional tribute not only unveils the remarkable friendship between Sanusi and Herbert but also highlights the profound impact of loyalty and support during times of adversity, transcending the boundaries of royalty and corporate leadership.
