President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Olayemi Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The announcement was made by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity.

Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso is an accomplished Nigerian banker, chartered stockbroker, and public policy expert. He previously served as the Commissioner for the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget during Tinubu's governance of Lagos.

Cardoso holds a Bachelor of Science in Managerial and Administrative Studies from Aston University, Birmingham, England, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States.

He has an extensive background in finance and has chaired the board of Citibank Nigeria. Cardoso has been involved in addressing urban development challenges as a member of the Cities Alliance’s Africa Think Tank Group.

Furthermore, he has served on the boards of MRS Oil and EFinA. Cardoso is associated with various organizations, including the Lagos Business School's advisory board and the African Venture Philanthropy Alliance. He is also known for his role as the founding chairman and co-chair of the Ehingbeti Summit, the Lagos State Economic Summit, and his previous role as an executive lead at the Harvard Kennedy School Alumni Association
