The 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill advanced to the second reading in the House of Representatives, receiving widespread support from lawmakers who emphasized its national importance. This move follows President Bola Tinubu's request to the House for approval of a supplementary budget totaling N2,176,791,286,033 to address issues such as labor wage adjustments and national security.

In addition to the supplementary budget, President Tinubu also submitted the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework & Fiscal Strategy Paper to the House. The approval for the 2023 supplementary budget was granted by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) a day earlier, amounting to N2.1 trillion. This budget allocation is aimed at addressing critical and pressing concerns, including N605 billion for national defense and security.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, clarified that these funds are vital to sustain and accelerate security measures, thereby consolidating the progress made in this domain. The rapid advancement of the supplementary budget in the House indicates strong political will to address crucial issues and facilitate the allocation of necessary resources to meet national requirements
