On Thursday night in Lagos, a series of devastating tanker accidents left numerous individuals trapped in a perilous situation. Emergency authorities rushed to the scene at SIFAX inward Costain, where a distressing sight awaited them. A catastrophic collision had ignited a fiery inferno involving multiple vehicles, notably two petrol tankers.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), shed light on the catastrophic events. It was determined that one of the tankers had been ascending a bridge when it unexpectedly rolled backward onto another tanker and several surrounding vehicles, leading to a catastrophic collision and the ensuing blaze.

While the exact number of people trapped within this nightmarish ordeal remains uncertain, preliminary assessments have revealed that the tragic accidents encompassed three container-laden trucks, two tankers carrying highly inflammable substances, one gravel-laden tipper truck, one flatbed truck, and three cars.

Responding to this harrowing situation, a total of four fire trucks, in conjunction with LASTMA, LASEMA, and the Nigeria Police, were swiftly deployed to the scene, striving to combat the raging flames and aid those in dire need. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the risks associated with transporting hazardous materials and the vital importance of emergency response teams in such critical moments
