Electricity workers, members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), have shut down the national grid, adhering to the Nigeria Labour Congress's directive for an indefinite strike.

The spokesperson for the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Ndidi Mbah, exclusively confirmed this development, revealing that the withdrawal of services commenced at 11:20 am on Monday.

The blackout, affecting the Federal Capital Territory and its surroundings, follows the nationwide strike declared by the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) despite a court order prohibiting such action.

The Presidency, represented by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, condemns the strike as a blatant disregard for the court order and a lack of respect for the judiciary, emphasizing the potential adverse impact on the nation's economy and social activities.

This crisis unfolds against the backdrop of the unions' earlier strike notice, triggered by the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero on November 1, 2023, in Imo State. Stay tuned as this nationwide blackout continues to disrupt normalcy.
